Cathy Scott is an award-winning investigative journalist and New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestselling true crime author who has written eleven books. She is best known for her definitive works: The Killing of Tupac Shakur, The Murder of Biggie Smalls, and Murder of a Mafia Daughter. Other recent books include The Millionaire's Wife, Unconditional Honor: Wounded Warriors and Their Dogs, and Pawprints of Katrina: Pets Saved and Lessons Learned. Her 12th book, First Lady of Murder—an in-depth biography of the late true crime author Ann Rule—is scheduled for spring 2026.
Scott's investigative journalism has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Post, The San Diego Union-Tribune, George magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, the Associated Press, and Reuters news service.
A former adjunct journalism professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Scott has appeared on numerous TV shows and in documentaries, including Investigation Discovery, CNN, MSNBC, 48 Hours, 20/20, Dateline, the BBC, NPR, and A&E. She contributes forensic analysis to Psychology Today and resides in the mountains east of San Diego with her three rescue dogs.
